Before moving users to another server, make sure you know how much RAM and disk space to allocate. If you have multiple servers, then you can simply divide them among all systems. However, if you are planning to move only one user from one host to another, you will need more memory.
You need not worry about that here. Even though it is time-consuming to manage a new system, you can still choose from the list of available options and find which plan fits your budget. After that, let’s go with our example. One week ago, we had 1 GB of RAM on my 2 GB HDD (which is enough for the most common programs). Now I have to change it to 7 GB since one of the servers is also running Windows 10. So I have to buy a separate desktop for it. My old computer can run for few days until I upgrade it again.
To install another OS on a different PC, you should make a backup on your main server just in case you get stuck on some problem while installing anything or any other application. But don’t forget you will lose everything you have done on your previous windows and need to start over. Moreover, the last time I upgraded to Microsoft OS, I lost the files and data I made before. Don’t worry about that. You can easily recover them by using either third party recovery software or official software for each operating system. Also, you can always look at the steps below.
Before Moving Into The Next Step Make Sure That Your Server Is Running On An ISO Image For Some Reason
Now, once your system is ready, move into the next step. Before going forward, make sure you have an ISO image on your desktop/laptop. It can be downloaded from your web hosting provider. Once you download it, save it somewhere safe and use it to set up a virtual environment only for your current operating system. I am using this tool every time I install something new and update my computer. To do so, type below command at the terminal.
1- Download the free VirtualBox Guest Suite and extract inside
2. Launch it by following this manual and click the “Install now” button
3. Type your Ubuntu username and password and press enter. If prompted, you can choose your preferred location that the ISO file was stored in. The size of the extracted folder will vary according to the size of your computer. In our case, there is two folders.
4. Copy the ISO file in the newly created folder
5. Navigate to the destination folder, copy the.iso file to the location with your Ubuntu username and password and move it back to your original folder so that you can use its services.
6. Open the USB drive and transfer the ISO from the new storage to your old one
7. Finally, open the terminal and go back to the initial point and run the command
8. This time you should see something like this in the terminal.
If you see nothing, repeat the same steps but this time try restarting it and typing
sudo reboot
After restarting and navigating to the correct folder, you will see your desired files. So wait for 2–3 minutes after which they will appear. Enjoy! Hope this tutorial helps you.
